Dads: This is an exciting time of the year. I love the Christmas season for many reasons. It’s also a time to reflect and take stock of how our investments are impacting our homes and the world.

One area for your consideration is the impact of fatherlessness, and the need for dads to be understood and encouraged.

We continue to see a growth in the number of unfathered children and an increase in the challenges facing dads every day. At the National Center for Fathering, we’re here for fathers. We’re committed to addressing difficult issues related to fathering—worldwide as well as those in each household. We are currently supporting fathering experts in 5 countries.

Here on Giving Tuesday—or really anytime during this last month of the year—I hope you’ll partner with us to help men grow as fathers. In the coming year, our focus is on three main areas:

Continuing to encourage you through weekly emails.

I hope you appreciate those regular reminders about the importance of your role, as well as the practical insights you receive. Last year, I heard from a judge who wrote that she uses our messages often, because the principles “apply to every adult that comes into [her] court. They’re excellent.” If you aren’t receiving those messages, you can subscribe right here.

Reviving Father-Daughter Summit events.

We are uniquely positioned to help dads connect with their daughters in more meaningful ways, and this event has a proven track record of doing just that. We have seen dads’ eyes opened to the hearts of their daughters in new ways and relationships restored at these events, and several are already scheduled for next year. We want to keep expanding these events, because the potential is so great for making a difference.  

Renewing our Train-the-Trainer program.

In our history, we have trained well over 1,000 people to use our materials to lead others along the journey of fatherhood. Thanks to the leadership of Ron Nichols and others, dads are still being inspired and equipped around the world in places like Ukraine, Singapore, Poland, Africa, and many other countries, as well as regions all over the U.S. Training other leaders is a fantastic model for multiplying our message and influence, and we already have a team of leaders engaged to strengthen this outreach going forward. Now, I want to be clear: We are committed to following through on these plans no matter what. This is the right thing for us to do; it’s what we’re called to.
